Why is this charming old stone
house known as the Mas du Four
(literally house of the oven) ? Over 200 years ago it served as the
central bake oven for the tiny picturesque village of Fontcaudette now
an ancient cluster of stone houses surrounded by orchards and vineyards
nestled on the sunny north slope of the Petite Luberon valley
overlooking the perched villages of Menerbes and LaCoste.
THE
HOUSE
Baking the village's baguettes
is only a memory but the huge stone beehive oven is still a unique
presence. The owner/architects have lovingly restored this two storey
house maintaining all of it's charm and character while providing every
comfort and modern amenity creating a spacious light-filled environment
from it's beamed ceilings and French windows to it's authentic stone
floors.
There are three comfortable bedrooms each with it's own private full
bath, a double height living room with soaring fireplace, a library
with a balcony overlooking the view and the piece de
resistance, a superb gourmet kitchen/dining room with another large
fireplace. Every room is beautifully furnished to the highest standards
with an interesting blend of antiques, contemporary furniture and art.
The kitchen is equipped with all the accoutrements of the serious cook;
pots, pans implements, small appliances as well as dishwasher,
microwave, etc. You will lack for nothing including full laundry, SAT
TV's, WI-FI Internet and stereo CD player.

THE
LOCATION
Considered the most beautiful part of Provence, the
Luberon's picturesques towns and beautiful landscape were made famous
by writer Peter Mayle. A few kilometers north is the stunning town of
Gordes with cobbled streets, interesting shops, restaurants, art
galleries, weekly street market and historic 13th C Chateau. A few
kilometers south is Coustellet famous for it's weekly Marche Paysanne
where farmers bring their wine, cheese, flowers and fresh produce. A
mecca for gourmet cooks. Antique lovers have L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with
it's hundreds of world class dealers. Avignon, Arles, Aix, St. Remy and
Marseilles are all within an hour's drive, each an easy one day
adventure.
Charming restaurants abound as do vineyards with tasting rooms. Visit
Roman ruins and picturesque street markets, take in a chamber music
concert, listen to jazz or go to an outdoor opera. Take a hike in the
Luberon national forest, kayak down the rivers, play tennis and golf or
just stay home and swim in the pool
